Adazhawa Clark is the 2025-2026 Burroughs Elementary Teacher of the Year!
Adazhawa joined Team Tulsa in 2022 as a fifth grade teacher. This is her second year teaching at Burroughs.
What led you to a career in education?
It was the lack of teachers that looked like me when I was in school. I will never forget how it made me feel not having teachers care about me. I refuse to let that happen on my watch.
What is your favorite thing about your work?
My favorite thing about my work is the relationships I get to form with my students. The bonds with them matter and it makes them feel seen, because they are seen. I see them.
What is one thing you are passionate about outside of teaching?
One thing I am passionate about outside of teaching is mental health. It’s very important and something I aspire to bring more awareness to. I love building Lego sets in my spare time and reading books that are collecting dust.
Is there anything else you would like to share?
I am grateful to God for this opportunity. It’s exciting and breathtaking at the same time. It’s such a joy being at Burroughs and to be a part of a team that feels like family. It’s an honor to know that my team chose me to be the teacher of the year.
